We had a visit from a Mad Scientist on Wednesday. We learned about measurement and everyone got to take home a pedometer.
Reading Workshop - Good Readers...
go back and reread the title when they finish a book to help them figure out what the book is about
use the change in pattern to help tell what the story is about
look for patterns in the picture
use the picture to help them solve tricky words
Writing Workshop - Good Writers...
- Act our their How To ideas with a buddy to make sure they aren't missing any steps
- Use special paper to write their How To books
- Reread to make sure words are spelled correctly and their writing makes sense
- Study How To books/mentor texts to get ideas about ways to improve their writing
- Write about important holidays
Math - We solved and created addition facts, and noticed the patterns that they create
Science/Social Studies - We finished discussing the water-cycle and seasons!
Reading Workshop - Good Readers...
- Share book introductions and recommend books to each other.
- Learn about great books from their friends and reading buddies!
- Notice patterns and how they change.
Writing Workshop - Good Writers...
- Celebrate by sharing their published writing!
- Begin a new unit - How to Books!
- Look at and discuss How to Books written by authors.
- Think about things they know how to do really well!
Math -
- We are working on joining groups of numbers, and counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s.
- We completed a bar graph activity with Gummy Bears!
Science/Social Studies
- Sadly, Phil, the groundhog, saw his shadow. We were all hoping for an early spring!
- We have been discussing the water-cycle and weather.
