***Valentine's Day Share!!! - Friday, February 14th at 2:30. Please have your child wear pink, red, and/or white.
Readers are retelling ROCK STARS! We discussed the importance of retelling and recalling information from the books that we read. Our goal is took earn 3 guitars when we give a rock star retell!
- Characters = 1 guitar
- Characters and their Actions = 2 guitars
- Characters, Actions, and Feelings = 3 guitars
- Students enjoyed practicing this strategy and you can support them at home by having them retell the stories that they read.
We began our How To unit in Writing. Students are writing books that teach readers how to do something. We learned that How To Writers...
- Make a list of things that they know how to do really well! So well that they can teach someone else.
- Tell the reader what to do using steps.
- Use sequence words - first, next, then, and finally, to tell the reader what to do in order.
- Create a detailed illustration for each step.
- Add labels that teach the reader more.
Math - we continued to work on our Cathy Fosnot Unit - Bunk Beds. Students used the math rack to make combinations of numbers up to 15. Students also created their own Bunk Bed stories and represented their combinations using the math rack and illustrations. Correct formation of addition equations was introduced.
Social Studies/Science - Chinese New Year and Maps. Sun,Weather and Seasons.
