Welcome Back!

Happy Spring!  It's so nice to finally have outdoor recess on a regular basis!  I hope you all had a relaxing break.  We had a busy week at school...

During Reading Workshop we learned that Reader's are Resourceful!

  • We reviewed strategies for reading tricky words.
  • We increased our reading stamina!
  • We practiced reading aloud with fluency and expression.

During Writing Workshop we began a new unit - Persuasive Writing!
  • We read several books where the characters were very persuasive and convincing such as; Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems.
  • We discussed positive phrases/words that authors use to be convincing.
  • We made a list of positive changes we would like to see happen at Holmes School.
  • We voted on one and we are writing a class letter to Mrs. Bleakley and Mr. Harvey in hopes of persuading them to make the change!
During Math Workshop we began a new Cathy Fosnot unit called Collecting and Organizing.  The class worked in groups to take inventory of classroom items.  They counted the items and labeled them.  We noticed that bundling items in groups of 10 helped us to be more organized and efficient.
